Work permit required until 2014 for Bulgarian and Romanian nationals
The Dutch cabinet agreed Friday 18 November 2011 not to open the Dutch labour market for Bulgarian and Romanian labour migrants until 1 January 2014. This implies that their employers will still need a work permit until that date. The cabinet is against the free movement of persons for this group with rising unemployment in the Netherlands and a heading recession. After 1 January 2014 the free movement of persons within the EU will also apply to Bulgarian and Romanian nationals.
