Labour market test for European Blue Card will not be introduced
The labour market test for the European Blue Card will not go ahead. The recently installed new government announced this to the House of Representatives on March 11, 2026. (Dutch)
The previous government had intended to introduce a labour market test for applications for an European Blue Card. This would have meant that the employer would first have to demonstrate that no suitable candidates are available in the Netherlands and the European Union, or can be made available, to fill the vacancy. In effect, this would have meant that no more European Blue Cards would be granted.
