New European Blue Card

A reform of the European Blue Card is upcoming.

The EU Directive on the new EU Blue Card is published. The new EU Blue Card Directive 2021/1883 (October 20, 2021 aims to make it easier for European companies to employ non-European highly qualified employees.

The European Union’s approach to attracting highly qualified workers is that the EU Blue Card should be made the primary tool in that regard. The new EU Blue Card will have faster immigration procedures, more flexible and inclusive admission criteria, and more extensive rights for EU Blue Card holders, including more intra-EU mobility.

The current EU Blue Card Directive 2009/50/EC will be repealed and replaced by a the new EU Blue Card Directive 2021/1883.

The Directive 2021/1883 have to be be adopted into national law of all participating EU Member States by November 18, 2023.
