The current travel restriction is until 15 May. The European Commission invited the EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland to extend the travel restrictions until 15 June 2020. All EU Member States (except Ireland) and non-EU Schengen countries have since taken national decisions to implement and prolong this travel restriction.

The Netherlands follows strictly the invitations of the European Commission with regard to the travel restrictions. The Netherlands will restrict all non-essential travel to the Netherlands until 15 June

Essential travellers like doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, researchers and experts helping to cope with the coronavirus, as well as persons carrying goods, frontier workers and seasonal agricultural workers, are allowed to enter.

The travel restriction also do not apply to EU citizens and their (non)EU family members, citizens of non-EU Schengen countries and their family members, and third country nationals that hold a valid EU long term resident permit, who wish to return home.

The travel restriction proposed by the European Commission applies to the ‘EU+ area’, which includes all Schengen Member States , including Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, and Romania, and the 4 Schengen Associated States, which are Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.
