The current travel restrictions for all non esential travellers to the Netherlands is extended until 1 July 2020. The European Commission requested its Member States to do so. Upon this request The Netherlands government acted and did extend the travel restrictions until 1 July 2020.

The European Commission also communicated that it recommends to extend the category of travelers with an ‘essential function’ per 1 July 2020. According the European Commission also included in this category should be:

–        highly qualified third-country workers (like EU Blue Card workers, and highy skilled migrants (in Dutch: ‘kennismigrant’) if their employment is necessary from an economic perspective and the work cannot be postponed or performed abroad.

Also included into this category should be non-EU nationals travelling for the purpose of study.

The European Commission also proposes to lift all travel restrictions per 1 July 2020 for:

–        nationals of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.
–        Nationals of EU Member States, nationals of Schengen Member States and third country nationals legally residing in the European Union, as well as their family members, regardless whether or not they are returning home.
